Doctor Strange – Movie Review

Doctor Strange is the newest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a successful doctor by the name of Dr. Stephen Strange. Everything in his life seems perfectly fine until one day, Strange gets into a brutal car accident which causes him to lose ability to use his hands. Discouraged and thinking there can be no way his hands can be fixed, he travels to a mysterious place and discovers magic and other mysterious ways he can help save the world.

The car accident shown in the beginning, was a really brutal and violent scene that I am actually really proud of Marvel for showing. I know many people that think Marvel movies are just meant for little kids to watch, when instead, sometimes they’re not. Doctor Strange’s car accident scene results in Strange’s face being severely bruised, beat up, cut up, and more. This scene alone proved that Marvel can be violent too, and not just DC.

By far the best scenes in this movie, are the mind-boggling city bending scenes throughout. As soon as the first magic scene happened in this movie, my jaw dropped in the theatre throughout the entire scene, because Doctor Strange has the best visual effects in a Marvel movie to date. So much hard work was put into these scenes, and I can’t even imagine how many people, and how much work it must have taken for even one of these scenes to be made.

But I do think that this movie’s biggest issue has to do with the villain, Kaecilius. Something about this villain feels underdeveloped, and I think Marvel has had much better villains in its past movies.

Also, at times I felt as if the movie needed some more action. I do appreciate how this movie wasn’t heavy on the action scenes, because it was instead focused on setting up an awesome world, but I just felt like some more action was needed at times.

But for the most part, Doctor Strange is an absolutely jaw-dropping experience and is an incredible addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
